Doctor Appointments, Play Dates, & Emily in Town

{ March 10 – 16 , 2014 }

This week we were on the upswing of our sickly weekend HERE! Yay! You never realize how blessed you are when you are totally healthy (I guess that my healthy is not a ‘normal’ healthy but whatever)…so we are happy that the week was a little funner minus the colds! :)

Some of what went down >>>

+ Ryder & I were still skipping the gym for the most part so my ribs/muscle strain could heal so we did some errands when we would otherwise hit the gym. We had a good time at Super Target thanks to a full box of the cereal, Oh’s! I think that is my new thing…when we go shopping, I just buy food there & he eats it there haha. He always pounds through the grapes, craisins, blueberries, whatever snacks I pack! Better safe than sorry haha. I need to keep him seated so yeah, it worked out great!

+ My very belated Valentine’s Day present came in the mail…little necklaces from Made By Marys’ Etsy shop! My sister met her at BYU since they lived next to each other & so that is how I know her & why I chose her shop to order from. I love my little necklaces!

+ Oh, Kevin came home from his business trip to Dallas for the CAMEX Tradeshow on Wednesday, March 12th. He was gone from March 6-12th so almost a week.

+ Hello my favorite TV shows: Revenge, Pretty Little Liars, & BREAKING BAD. GUYS…BREAKING BAD. SPOILER ALERT! Don’t read if you haven’t watched all of Breaking Bad. Kevin & I finished it later this week & I am not going to lie, I’m not ready for it to be done!!! I was not ready! I need to know more about what happened with Jesse Pinkman but I am sure glad he got away. What bout Saul? What about Joule? Haha. What about Beneke (the guy who got paralyzed…Skyler's boss!) & Skyler & their kiddos…what about Hank’s wife (I forget her name ahh!) I have a lot of unanswered questions haha. But I can’t wait for the prequel TV show Better Call Saul to start up! You better believe we will be tuning in for that! But I am glad that Walt died at the end because I was starting to hate him for obvious reasons…wow…Poor Hank! Yeah, I could go on but I’ll stop. But WOW! It’s over. So sad.

+ Ryder & I joined my mom, Hunter, & Zach (when Kevin & dad were out of town) at Café Rio & met up with my aunt NaNet, cousins Paige & Wyatt for dinner. We had a good time & Ryder did great, since with the time change his new bed time is 8 pm…so we stayed up basically till then. My cousin Paige was reading Clockwork Prince & I started asking her about books she has been reading since I just finished Divergent. I was dying to get my hands on Insurgent & Allegiant since the library has like month long waiting lists & I kind of stopped buying books because I never really re-read them. She had read them & had all of them so I drove to their house after Café Rio & pick up the 2nd & 3rd books to borrow. I will also borrow some other books from them soon when I finish the ones I’ve got from the library. It worked out great!

+ I finished Divergent this week! Loved it! I highly recommend that book to anyone! I started Insurgent & about finished it this week as well. ;)

+ As soon as Kevin got home on Wednesday, he watched Ryder so I could go to my rib follow up appointment from bruising them & straining the chest muscle or whatever muscle that is. It was kind of an annoying appointment because my chest/ribs were still hurting & the doctor didn’t have anything new really to say. She just said when my Meloxicam runs out to take Advil…& I could try physical therapy. Heck no. I am not trying physical therapy. It has never worked for me & I tried it gosh a few times in the past few years & wasted way too much time & money doing it. I felt like it was sort of getting a little better before getting a cold so apparently even coughing can agitate it & make it worse again so I am hoping that is what happened. I made it worse when I got a cold & was coughing, that’s her thoughts, etc.. Then afterwards, I ran to Babies ‘r’ Us to get Ryder a plate & look at their utensils. I realized he probably should start learning how to use them since he is basically a legit toddler so I got him a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse set haha. It is cute & he loves it.

+ Kevin & I had FHE.

+ We ordered some cookie dough from the Young Women in our ward for a fundraiser for Girl’s Camp this summer. I basically ate all the cookie dough raw…it was so worth it…I think haha. I LOVE COOKIE DOUGH!

+ Amanda Johnson & I went together to our ward’s Relief Society Mid-Week Activity which was a dinner put on by the High Priests. We had a very yummy dinner of prime rib, potato's, broccoli, rolls, & a salad. We also learned more about the history of the Relief Society & played a game. It was fun!

+ On Friday morning, Gwen Valles (Valencia & baby Gabrielle) & Anna (Emery) came to our house for a play date since we hadn’t seen each other for awhile. Anna brought some homemade bread & we ate that for a snack. It was really yummy. I met Gwen’s new baby girl, Gabrielle & she is such a sweetie. I hadn’t held a newborn for awhile so at first, I always feel like it is awkward haha. I figured it out though. I can’t believe how little she was! She was littler than Ryder was when Ryder was even born & she was about a month old!

+ I had more ANNOYING insurance phone calls…my insurance was accidentally cancelled (Anthem doesn’t know why) & since then, my insurance broker has been trying to reinstate it & they keep saying they are doing it & then they don’t (Anthem that is). I am running out of time to get it fixed before my next infusion in a week otherwise I will have to push it back which is NOT OKAY with me. And since I’m writing this post a week later, yes my insurance is STILL not figured out & I have 2 days until it is too late & will have to push back my Remicade infusion. I will be so mad. It is all out of my control & everyone is doing everything can so I guess I have to be okay with whatever happens. I will just be really pissed if my arthritis pains starts coming back… All because of dumb insurance changes & I might as well just blame Obama haha ;) I’ve never been a fan of him so yeah.

+ I got my eyes checked since each year I have to in order to order a new year supply of contacts. I don’t know what was going but the guy who checks your eyes first to get an idea of your prescription said one of my eyes was doing something weird. It was giving them a huge range of what my prescription could be. He thought it would give a better answer after getting dilated but it didn’t so he kept checking it FOREVER! Then the optometrist came in & he did the same thing. When they had my prescription over my eyes it was like blurry. I was like… “Is this supposed to be clear? Because it’s not…” They were starting to worry me but in the end said they didn’t know why it was happening but that it wasn’t anything to worry about. It is also not common?…but yeah, I’m not going to worry about it but it was weird!!! Then I drove to my parents & hung out there since Ryder was napping there. I hung out in their dark basement until my eyes weren’t so bad. I hate when my eyes are dilated!!!

+ Kevin, my mom, me, Hunter, Zach, & I ate at Wahoo’s that evening. I’m glad Kevin drove since it is so awkward when your eyes are dilated. Everything is so bright! We then picked up Catching Fire on our way home since Kevin never saw it & we watched it later that night.

+ I got my bangs trimmed at Europa on Saturday & barely made my 10 minute appointment window because there was a Saint Patrick’s Day Parade downtown…I was SO lucky to get there on time! I was rushing so fast when I got downtown & realized it was way crowded for something! Then I ran a few errands & headed home. Kevin & I cleaned the house which was much needed & it felt so much better once its cleaned. We squeezed in some Breaking Bad during nap time & later that evening to finish it. We went on a double date with Jacob & Jilian Houghton to BJ’s. I grew up with Jacob actually & Kevin met him at a Stake event so that’s how he met him since they are in a different ward. It was a lot of fun even though Ryder kept throwing things at Jacob haha.

+ Sunday was packed full of church stuff…Kevin had Ward Council prior to church & after church I had a Relief Society Presidency Meeting. Then while I was there Kevin cooked a meal & we dropped it off after I got home for a sister who I visit teach. But in the morning, Emily Vail stopped by since she was in town. She & I grew up here & then when I moved back here to CO after college, she lived here for a few years, but just got moved to CA for her job, so it was good to see her. I hadn’t seen her since the fall. It was just not enough time!!! But we hung out before Ryder & I left for church.

+ Oh & Sunday evening, Kevin & I walked Ryder over to Water’s Way park. I wanted to get some fresh air & let Ryder run around. It was fun! Usually it is just me & Ryder (& whoever we meet at the park), but not Kevin, so it was fun to go as a family. Ryder sure loved watched other kids play Basketball! (Photos above.) Really, he would much rather do that than play at the park haha. Such a boy!

Good times! This week was so much better than the last! Being healthy is such a blessing!

Have a good Tuesday!

Ryder’s 18 Month Wellness Appointment + Sicky Weekend

{ March 5-9, 2014 }

Kevin was out of town almost the whole time in Dallas for the CAMEX Tradeshow, so Ryder & I had the week/end to ourselves. Unfortunately we both got sick, so it kind of was a bummer, but we got through it! Kevin actually left March 6th & came home March 12th.

Firstly, Ryder had his 18 Month Wellness Checkup: He is doing great & is a happy healthy boy! He now weighs 24 lbs. 13.5 oz. (30% percentile) & is 33 inches tall (70% percentile). Staying tall & skinny! I thought he was gaining a little weight but in reality, he wasn’t gaining that much at all…he is not turning into a chunker haha. So yeah, he got 2 shots, cried, & then got over it very quickly once we left the appointment room. A lady at the front desk gave Ryder a Batman sticker so that helped as well. We hung out outside watching cars for a bit & he loved it.

Besides, the doctor appointment, we both got colds which kind of sucked. That was the first real time when I wasn’t going to get over the cold without medicine, since starting Remicade. I had a couple of minor colds that went away quickly so I didn’t worry about it too much but this time it wasn’t going away. I didn’t really know what I could take since I am getting Remicade infusions so I had to call the pharmacist. I figure I will be always calling them since I am on weird medicine for my Ankylosing Spondylitis & with my bruised ribs/severe muscle strain.

Some of the fun stuff that went down (yes we did have some highlights of our week/end) included:

+ After Ryder’s doctor appointment, we went to Walgreen’s (to get some meds & pick up some Instagram photos I printed) & then headed over to the Council Tree Library for me to pick up a handful of books I had on HOLD. Ryder thoroughly enjoyed the water fountain there – it was the perfect height for him. It is hysterical watching him drink from a water fountain (photo above). I did pick up Divergent!!! I was waiting for months to get it…had to wait for like 70 people to read it before me ;)

+ Kevin had Stake Basketball & I am pretty sure it was his last time until next fall! Yay! After Ryder was in bed, we watched New Girl.

+ I made banana bread which was yummy but I realized, chocolate chips are kind of necessary in it…so next time, I will remember to put them in!

+ I put my Instagram prints in my Pier 1 Imports picture holder (photo above). I also ordered about 40 more prints (I couldn’t decide haha) so I can switch them out whenever I want! I definitely take a lot of photos of Ryder…

+ I watched a lot of 24 while Ryder was napping or in bed at night…haha. I also read A LOT of Divergent. I’m obsessed with that book. Can’t wait for the movie!

+ My brothers brought over some chicken pot pie for Ryder & I so we didn’t have to cook one night. It was REALLY YUMMY! I got the recipe from my mom & am going to make it soon, hopefully this weekend.

+ Ryder & I went to the park twice…whenever the weather got warmer. It was REALLY cold, I think it snowed like a little bit this week, so that really sucked since we couldn’t go outside & I didn’t feel well to go to stores. But he did love the park & he did love the slide! (lots of photos above) Also, if kids are playing soccer, or basketball at the nearby court, or anything, Ryder would rather try to join in or watch than play at the park… He throws fits if I try to get him to leave & go to the park or anywhere else. Such a sports guy! I also am learning to bring a ball to the park. It is basically funner than the park features.

+ Oh, I also started implementing time out so you will see him in a photo above, standing by a door haha. I chose in front of the door because I didn’t think there was anything entertaining there but apparently Ryder thought it was an interesting spot. He loves to try to squeeze his fingers in the door crack. Oh Ryder. He is a funny boy! He is also so cute in time out haha. Oh, & he is in timeout for 1 minute 30 sec. (1 minute per year is what they say). OH, & a few of the reasons he goes in timeout is for throwing legos (we only throw balls haha), throwing blocks, & some other things I can’t remember. He is a pretty good kid though.

+ Ryder & I skipped out on church since Ryder was still pretty sick…he would get coughing fits that could lead to…(barf lol) since he couldn’t cough anything up & would gag a lot…so I definitely didn’t want to happen in nursery. We hungout at home of course, like we did all week/end. And that evening, Revenge started up!

That sums up most of our sick-ly weekend! Looking back, it wasn’t too bad, but it kind of sucked sometimes haha. I’m glad we are healthy now. Health is something I think a lot of people take for granted. AHHH, I so wish my disease would disappear…sometimes I think about my life, pre-disease (Ankylosing Spondylitis) & wish I would have known so I could have enjoyed it more. I was really active so I think I did a good job but I just wish I could be active & do whatever I want now. I am pretty active now but not in the things I really love to do. I have to be careful now. Anyways, enough of that haha. Just a thought.

Happy hump day!

And March Begins…

{ March 1 – 4th, 2014 }

Well, hello there, March. The beginning of March was good to us…except for Ryder & I both got sick with colds (the latest)… March, thus far, has been both good and bad.

Some of the good:

+ (+ for positive/good guys…) – Our home teacher Jeremy Call had Ryder come over & play with his kids on Saturday (March 1st) morning so Kevin & I could go out for a breakfast date & also because he couldn’t home teach us the month prior hehe. Ryder had A LOT of fun with their kids. They said he liked looking in the fridge & helping unload the dishwasher…and probably played too. That was SO nice of them to offer. Kevin & I went & used my last ‘free birthday meal’ at IHOP. Kevin & I had a fun conversation about ‘our next house we move into.’ We are by NO MEANS looking to buy ANYTIME soon but it is just fun to talk about and then all of a sudden breakfast was over & that was basically the gist of our conversation…oh & I convinced him to make a headboard or our bed haha so that was a good move. We had a fun little date morning!

+ Kevin spent most of the day (after our IHOP breakfast) at a Stake MTC/Missionary Training thing. He was asked to “teach” the priest age youth in our whole Stake in a MTC setting. He taught out of Preach My Gospel & the doctrine of Kevin Sloan, jk, but he taught good things to know/things they can do to prepare or something like that. Then the boys would be paired up with a companion & go teach a lesson at a ‘nonmember’s’ home. That home was basically a member in a different ward they didn’t know. They also shouldn’t have known their companion. Pretty cool! Kevin had fun. Kevin is great with the youth.

+ Zach & Hunter came over & hung out with Ryder & I in the evening until Kevin came back from the MTC gig. They ordered pizza so we had a little. Then Kevin was back & we played Telestrations (a fun game the Painter’s got us for Christmas – thanks guys!). It was a hoot.

+ We had church on Sunday of course, but then in the evening, Kevin invited over the laurels & priests in the ward over for dinner. One of Kevin’s callings (not his Stake Athletic Director one) is that he is in the Sunday School Presidency. Basically, if a teacher is gone or didn’t show up, he teaches last minute…AND…let me tell you, teaches the most amazing lessons. I could NEVER be like him. I am a horrible teacher & have to know weeks ahead of time haha. So yeah, he taught their Sunday School class once (actually I’m sure quite a few times) & invited them to come over (photo above of them on our couch). We had steak, béarnaise sauce, rice, peaches, & rolls for dinner. Then we played Telestrations (yes, again!) with all of them & had a great time. That is what the kids are holding in the photo – they are holding their ‘game cards.’ Then if anyone wanted before leaving they could eat an ice-cream sandwich. Fun night! I had a good time getting to know some youth in the ward. They are all so nice and are sharp kids!

+ I had lunch at Panera (for my birthday) with the Relief Society Presidency & then afterwards we went to my house & had our Presidency meeting…after I put Ryder down for a nap. I work with some awesome ladies!

+ We had another Bachelor party except for it was the lamest episode…The Women Tell All. Sarah & Nick came over & we all laughed hysterically as usual. Good times!

+ I went to a DIFFERENT orthopedic spine surgeon to figure out my mysterious spine issue (long story) & he thought I could use an MRI to see if there was anything to see because he wasn’t seeing anything from my X-Rays & my latest MRI of my back was just of my SI joints/pelvis. I don’t know what I would want…for them to see something on my MRI or not. Because if they do, then I can be like, “I TOLD YOU. It didn’t feel right!” or then be like “Crap…now what?” I don’t want surgery. So yeah. It really isn’t how it used to be since before pregnancy but really since my Ankylosing Spondylitis flare up. That probably didn’t make sense... In a nutshell, it hurts to bend over and I have multiple tender spots along the spine…and no one can tell me what it is…including my rheumatologist & a lame orthopedic spine surgeon who I saw originally. This doctor said he didn’t really know what it could be either. Hope I get some answers!

+ Kevin went to the last two Stake Basketball nights (that is his Stake calling – Stake Athletic Director) & is done with his Stake calling until next fall when volleyball starts up! Yay! I have a little bit better chance of seeing him at night haha!

SO, that’ll be it. I don’t want to say my next post will be negative because…it will be but it will be in a good light ha. It won’t be that bad but basically Ryder & I have been laying low trying to fight off our lame colds! Ryder has it worse :’(

xoxo friends.

The last week in February…

The last week in February…

{ February 24 – 28, 2014 }

>>> Day in Denver: Kevin, Ryder, & I made our way to Denver for Ryder’s first pediatric dermatology appointment. It was at the Children’s Hospital in Aurora (basically Denver). Ryder cried basically the whole appointment which wasn’t surprising. Oh, by the way, the appointment was for his ‘bald-ish’ spot on his head from where they tried the vacuum in labor & delivery. It isn’t really common at all to have a bald spot but of course, it happens to my kid. Poor guy. Oh, he did calm down a little bit when they gave him a juice box & bag of Goldfish; this kid loves to eat! Anyways, they said there isn’t much to do right now for it. They could biopsy it to see the follicles closer & see if hair would grow back or not but that would create another trauma to the head & that would definitely make it worse. I don’t want him to have surgery or anything but I wanted to see if there was anything you could do and just know all my options (maybe a special magical cream lol?). Basically there was no options, which is fine. That is what I expected. I just didn’t want to miss out on something minor that could help. I was actually a little surprised I didn’t learn more from the dermatologists, but whatever. Then we drove to Cherry Creek to do some shoe returns at Nordstrom. We then made our way to use my ‘free birthday meal’ at Red Robin at the 16th Street Mall. I never really drive through downtown Denver that much but it is actually pretty cool! I need to get down there more often. The downside is the crazy traffic of course & parking… Kevin drove straight to the airport for a quick business trip to Indianapolis & I drove back home to Fort Collins. For dinner, Ryder & I met up with my family at Panera and he was absolutely crazy haha.

>>> Kevin went on a short business trip to Indianapolis from Monday the 24th to Tuesday the 25th.

>>> I tried some of my potato chip chocolate from my parents for Christmas finally, haha. I was waiting for the right time to eat it haha. I am not kidding. It was interesting! You can get it at World Market if you are interested.

>>> I also “worked on” my Italian with the help of my Italian Slanguage book that Kelsi got me for Christmas. It is kind of a joke if you can’t tell from the title (photo above). It is a hilarious book though. Someday Kevin & I WILL go to Italy! Someday! Whenever we save up enough money…but we hope to make it for the Rome Temple Open House! That would be amazing.

>>> My mom, Ryder, & I met up with my cousin Jen Lorch & cousin James’ wife, Melanie Seilbach at Snooze in downtown Fort Collins. We hadn’t seen them for a few years. It was also their first time meeting Ryder. It was fun to catch up!! We definitely need to get together soon & maybe somewhere where Ryder can run around & not be stuck in a high chair when he doesn’t want to be ;)

>>> We had FHE & after watched The Bachelor since Kevin missed it again, hehe. Classy FHE right?

>>> I caught up with my girl Celestine Yeung on the phone. Good memories with this girl & hopefully I will see her this summer! Miss her.

>>> I kind of toned down things at the gym because my ribs/chest were still hurting just doing SPIN or the recumbent bike…Kevin said he doesn’t feel sorry for me when I don’t take a break & give myself a chance to heal so I skipped a bunch of days…I hate doing that! Haha…it better PAY OFF!

>>> I planned a park play date at Water’s Way Park with Ashley Bean (Lizzie & Henry) & Candis MacKay (& Parker)…Ryder learned how to go up & down the slide ALL BY HIMSELF. He absolutely loved it! It is so fun to see him go down the slide. He is adorable. Parker & Lizzie liked to try to help them too. He also would whine so I would help him hang on a bar & then he would get tired & would whine for me to help him down…the funny thing was that his feet were like 1 inch away from the ground, haha. He could have just let go. He also kept trying to escape the park & would wander over into a field saying “ball!” & pointing…I didn’t see any balls & then he went & grabbed a landscaping flag out of the ground & thought well, I guess he wanted that. He kept going into the field so I decided to let him & he walked across a huge field over to a basketball court & stood under a hoop, pointed at it, & said, “ball!” Such a sporty boy. It was cute.

>>> We went to dinner at Café RIo with my family (dad, mom, Zach, Hunter), of course Kevin & Ryder, & also the Puccetti’s (NaNet – my aunt, Wyatt, Garet, & Paige)… to do a belated birthday celebration with the relatives for both Zach & my birthday (since our bdays are only 2 days apart!). It was delicious as always & Ryder literally did get crazier than Panera this week. Kevin got to witness him like this haha. To his defense, it was past his bed time…so…but he did hit a stranger lol. Poor guy was SO tired.

>>> My mom came over & hung out at my house while the maids were cleaning theirs… I would love a maid lol. Any volunteers?! ;)

>>> I made snicker doodle cookies that turned out amazing & then gave some to Emily (who I visit teach). Katie & I dropped stuff off at the houses of who we visit teach (Emily & Erin) that afternoon… By the way, Katie is big into reading & her Good Reads account is LEGIT (look her up: Katie Richards) so I was inspired to work on mine & get back into reading :)

>>> And yes, Ryder took a nap with the Jawbone Jambox…

Peace out February!
