Cloud 9, Evita Broadway Play, Germany, & Ryder – Mom Time

January 20-26th was full of fun! Some highlights include:

>>>  Ryder & I dropped Katinka off at Banfield Pet Hospital for her comprehensive exam. Ryder bawled like a big baby as they took her away. He was so upset! (Photo above). Then we walked around Petsmart looking at everyone’s dogs to cheer his sad soul up.

>>> We hosted a Bachelor Party: Kevin & I used to host Bachelor parties back when we were at BYU & about 15-ish people would come over. We would have food to eat & really, we all had a good time. Since moving here, Kevin hasn’t wanted to watch every season. Also, we don’t know an insane number of people who watch the show & are into like us…but honestly, I am sure we could get things started. BUT…in the meantime, Kevin got to talking with people at Zephyr & a big group of Zephyr employees all want to do parties so now Kevin has these planned. This was the 1st time we watched it at our house & it was a lot of fun! I am glad Kevin decided to do these with some friends from work. There were supposed to be 6-ish people coming for this episode at our house but there were some changes last minute & only 3 people showed up to eat 5 pizzas, soda, & candy haha. Kevin said his typical crossing the line comments & overall, we had a good time!

>>> Ryder & I watched Cloud 9 after he woke up from a nap. Cloud 9 is Disney’s newest snowboarding movie. It premiered like a week & a half ago & I definitely made sure to watch it…why??? Well, Kelsi my sister was an extra in it! She was actually seen in the  movie maybe mid-way snowboarding in the background. You have to know her outfit otherwise you would have no clue who she was. So funny. But yeah, it was actually pretty good, if you’re into the whole Disney original movies. I remember being obsessed with Johnny Tsunami (remember that one?!), Zenon the Girl from the 21st Century (SO GOOD!), Brink, The Luck of the Irish, Halloweentown (weird one), & I am sure there are more. But man, Disney sure is good at making them movies! Those were the classic, good old day ones, haha.

>>> I started decorating for Valentine’s Day! Okay my 1 decoration ha…well, I updated our chalkboard (photo above with Ryder in the highchair) & I put up a $1 Target heart garland above the fireplace (you can see it in a photo of us watching Cloud 9). You can’t get better than a $1 garland! Cheaper to buy!!! Love that. Anyways, I know we have some heart shaped baskets in the basement…I need to bring those up…my birthday is very close to Valentine’s Day so I need to start getting in the Valentine’s Day mood beforehand so they are more separated haha & not clumped together if you know what I mean.

>>> I tried a new crockpot recipe (photo above). It was basically Hawaiian BBQ chicken with pineapple. It was pretty good! It made the house smell amazing the whole day. I love that part about crockpots :)

>>> I checked out Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (& other concerns too) at the library. I love Mindy Kaling. She was in The Office & is in The Mindy Project. She is so hilarious. Her book was pretty funny too. I would say though, it would help if you knew more (than me) about movies, actors, actresses, & that whole industry. But it is still funny. I already finished it. If all of this was earth shattering news to you, I am sorry, you are living under a rock.

>>> Evita – The Broadway Play: My mom & I went to see Evita, the Broadway musical play in Denver on Wednesday, the 22nd. I always remember my mom being obsessed with Evita since when I was young. I remember one time we all watched it…my mom & maybe just my sister… I especially remember the music, “Don’t Cry for me Argentina!” When I saw a commercial for the Broadway show I told my mom about it & she wanted to go. On the way to the show, she told me she wasn’t obsessed with it haha. She also said Kelsi & I thought the movie, Evita, was SO weird which yes, I am sure we did think that. Well, anyways, we ate dinner at the Limelight Supper Club & Lounge beforehand which is literally 10 feet away from the theatre. My mom thinks the only thing going for that restaurant is the location but I beg to differ. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t amazing. I had a main dish of sweet potatoes & pork chops & I think some other things too… Then we hurried over to the show, Evita! It was really good. The actors & actresses were really talented. Evita, the actress, was phenomenal. I am not really a musical type person but it was good. You can tell they are all so talented. It was a fun evening! Oh, & my dad & Kevin watched Ryder that evening.

>>> Kevin & my dad went to Munich, Germany for the ISPO tradeshow. I was/am still jealous. Ich liebe Deustchland! They get back home real soon. They left January, 24th & get back tomorrow, January 28th.

>>> I worked on some decorations for our house. We have had a shelving/gallery wall area in progress for…months. I finally decided where all the frames would go. I guess you could say I have been procrastinating it. I ordered photos to go in them. I bought an “S” letter to spray paint (thanks Joann’s) & fill in an area in the gallery wall… I used up a gift card at Pier 1 Imports & got a fun elephant piece of art to go in our main level half bath. We will need to move some hardware in order to put it where I want it. I have been looking at Pinterest & getting feedback from friends & family here. Slowly, our house is coming along! I don’t feel like our Ikea Expedit is styled really but over time, it’ll come. I need Kevin to hang a bunch of things up & we will be onto my next things haha!

>>> OH, & I also could not pass up on a deal on a stroller that I have been eyeing since I was pregnant…it can be converted into a double when the time comes. There are like 18 ways to put the 2 kids when you get the 2nd seat. It is pretty snazzy. But basically, it is the Baby Jogger City Select. We almost bought it when I was pregnant with Ryder but decided to go the cheap way out, which I think was the right move at the time. I follow many deal sites/Insta feeds & 1 posted the stroller deal on Instagram (@MintArrow). It was the cheapest the stroller has been but only in 2 colors (red & quartz). I chose quartz because our infant car seat would look like Christmas next to the red (it is black/green). Also, when that car seat expires & we have to get another infant car seat, it’ll be easier to match. Maybe not everyone thinks about matching but I do haha. I do love the red though! It was on Amazon which is always great because of no shipping & no taxes!!! I have Prime so that helps with the shipping. We are going to sell our Chicco Cortina stroller sometime, when I get around to it. It is a perfectly good stroller but I figure if we are ever going to get a double & the double stroller I want is on sale for the cheapest it has been, I should get it when I can! Then I can just watch the adaptor (to attach the infant car seat to the stroller) & second seat & get them when they go on sale (Black Friday/Cyber Monday maybe?). The good thing is I’ve got some time since I am not pregnant. Ryder is in it (photos above) when we tested it out for the 1st time. It drives like a Cadillac. So far we love it!

>>> & church…church without Kevin is rough ha. We both watch him during sacrament, I watch him during 2nd hour (Kevin often times has to teach), & then 3rd hour, Kevin takes him so I can focus on Relief Society (& my calling). Ryder is an energetic little hooligan at church. It is really his exact nap time so the whole time he is fighting a nap & wanting to run around like a mad-toddler. So. We sat behind my friend Sage Pierce & her kiddos (Beckett & Mia) & Ryder & them all shared goldfish. It helped get through the 1st hour, lol. Then 2nd & 3rd was just crazy. It is hard when I need more hands to distribute the Relief Society binders but we made it through!!! Also, Ryder will be in nursery in basically 1 month! So bitter sweet. He is really ready to go to nursery & Kevin & I will be able to really listen in church again but I will miss having him with me. He just got too rowdy too quick as a toddler lol. Then afterwards, we had a Relief Society Presidency Meeting at my house…

The usual: Super Target, working out every day (do I need to say that?), ordering things online (needs & wants, but really just needs ;)), Pretty Little Liars (my favorite Tuesday evening activity), New Girl (Kevin & I love it – I love fat Schmidt), Ryder letting himself out of the gym’s daycare (photo above), library time, Ryder & I having our own Football game in the backyard (photos above), Kevin had 2 evenings of Stake Basketball stuff (he is the Stake Athletic Director), pay bills, it snowed & I shoveled (need Sorels, bad!), the Jeep got a flat tire & we got it fixed, made banana bread, had FHE (hello goals!), went visiting teaching, church stuff, got the Jeep washed (long overdue), got groceries at King Soopers (Ryder got a kids cookie – I remember getting those! I still feel like I am a kid & should get one…that is weird), Café Athens dinner with Hunter & my mom (Zach was being anti-social),  & that should do it.

Happy Monday! Hope it was a great start to your week!

Birthday Parties, 2nd Cousins, BYU Folk Dance, + More

January 13-18, 2014:

This was a pretty good week but I did find out some sad news! I found out one of my old dance teachers at BYU passed away from complications from the flu. Her name is Delynne Paey. She taught many dance classes for YEARS…like 40 years I think? in BYU’s Department of Dance. She was the longest faculty member in the BYU Dance Department. She was really well known in the US but also across the world! She taught classes within the Folk/World Dance genre. I grew up clogging (& competing all over) so when I went to BYU, I thought “What am I good at?” since everyone was amazingly good at something there. So, I was like, “Ok..well, I am really good at clogging. I won Nationals way back when & I am sure I could pick it up again.” So I did. I auditioned for one of the BYU Folk Dance teams & made one. The second year I danced for Delynne’s team, 10RB. She was a spunky, fun, energetic, talented, lady. She taught our team the stick dance from the Philippine's. We performed that in Christmas Around the World that December…I think it was Christmas of 2008. A week before her passing, I had started noticing some people posting things on Facebook. They were sharing a link to a place where you can donate money for a cause. The cause was to help with her medical bills. I then found out she was in the hospital very sick.  She first got the flu, ended up in ICU with pneumonia, & then kidney failure. Her organs were shutting down. I heard she started dialysis & her body seemed to be doing ok with it but then she passed away on January 13th. She is in the 1st photo in this post. She is the top left lady, above the guys. A link to her obituary is HERE (I think it is a pretty good bio on her). She passed when she was only 62 years. It is so sad but she is in a better place, & we are all sure she is dancing!

Other than that, here are some of the better things that happened last week. It is funny for me to type that…last week! I’ve caught up :)

// Shopped >>> Super Target, Barnes & Noble (got a new planner- the ‘Keep Calm Carry On’ one above. Ryder spilled water ALL over my last one I bought a month ago, for this 2014 year, & it got warped & completely ruined), Babies ‘r’ Us (to get a bday gift for his friend, Emery, the library (picked up the book, Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? –Don’t be concerned by the title. I am not lonely. It is written by Mindy Kaling- hilarious actress if you are living under a shell.), & all the awesome stores at Centerra.

// Kevin & I both watched The Bachelor. Kevin & some people from work decided to do Bachelor parties & this week it was at my uncle, Mike’s house. Kevin went since Ryder was sleeping & I watched it at home. We used to have big parties when we were at BYU. Gosh, I don’t know how many people came but it was like 15 each week??? They were so fun!

// Kevin went on a business trip to Las Vegas from Wednesday, January 15th, to Saturday, January 18th.

// I also spent a good amount of time working on this computer…uploading photos…downloading programs…so I could use it & get caught up on blogging again…so that was fun ;)

// My mom & I went to dinner with our friend Mindy at Restaurant 415. It is a pretty good restaurant. They have vegan, vegetarian, gluten free options for all of those kind of people…if you’re into that. But I got brussel sprouts, steak skewers, & mac & cheese (their mac & cheese is BOMB). Ryder played peek-a-boo & threw his lid to his snack holder like across the entire restaurant. He threw it & it rolled under like 10 tables over. I couldn’t see where it went but people at a table near us told us the general area. It was so awkward. I had to go up to a couple enjoying a romantic dinner & ask if they saw a green lid to a kid snack bowl thing. Luckily, the guy found it under his chair HAHA. I was like “I’m so sorry to disturb your dinner. My kid threw it!” Oh being a mom ;)

// BIB QUESTION! >>> If you see the picture of Ryder’s back (above) you will see that there are red marks on the right side of his neck. Well, apparently his Bumkin bibs are scratching, cutting, & giving him scabs. I had no clue what was going on for awhile but my mom was like “OH, let me see your bib” when I asked her. Apparently she had that happen to me & my siblings when we were younger. Some bibs cut their necks when they try to rip them off. SO. With that said, do you have any recommendations on bibs? I loathe cloth. I had a few in the beginning & definitely not going back. Something with a snap or something rubber-y? I looked online. Does anyone like those Baby Bjorn bibs?

// I got a massage at Miramont.I bought a 5-pack in the fall because they had a crazy good deal going on & my rheumatologist told me to try them for my mysterious back problem. It felt good but it didn’t fix my problem. I kind of thought that, but you won’t really know until you give it a shot? It felt good though! Then Ryder & I met up with my mom & Hunter at Panera for dinner. YUM! I also got a red velvet cookie to go!

// Ryder & I met my cousin Brittany Lenski & her baby girl, Adeline at lunch at Café Rio after my workout (photo above). It was fun to catch up! She just moved to basically the Colorado Springs area so we will be meeting up more often, in Denver or wherever! Ryder tried to feed her beans. It was hilarious. She is just barely starting to try solids so, soon he will be able to feed her haha.

// Friday night, the 17th, my mom & I went shopping at Centerra. We were trying to find Ryder church shoes but gave up & decided his black Toms worked. They had gotten him some for Christmas but you couldn’t get them on his feet. Come on Baby Gap! Then Zach & Hunter met up with us at Charley’s Subs & we ate a quick dinner. Ryder LOVED seeing his uncles! Of course, since Mary’s Mountain Cookies was right next door we had to get some. I got a Salted Caramel cookie (photo above) & a Fudge Swirl one. They have the BEST cookies there! Oh, & because I love a good deal. I got Ryder striped red/blue pajamas from Baby Gap for $2.50. They were on sale & their sale was on sale. They were originally $25. I don’t get lucky this often but every once in awhile you do!

// Ryder is obsessed with taking the vents off the air vent things (I don’t know the technical terms here…bare with me). I was finishing getting ready in the bathroom when I heard Ryder saying, “Ball, ball, ball"… then I look down at him & he is looking down the air vent saying “Ball”…so he definitely put some ball down there & I have no clue how to get it back. I don’t think we can haha. Oh, there is a photo of him & the air vent above.  I wish we had locks on those things! He also put a ball down my parent’s air vent before when he was much younger. Gone forever!!!

// Ryder & I went to Emery Yancey’s 2nd Birthday Party (photos above)! It was such a cute party. It was cupcake themed. Ryder & all the kiddo shared each other’s food…all their milk, cookies, carrots, & more. I wouldn’t be surprised if their dogs ate some too. Ryder found a balloon he liked & wouldn’t let go. Luckily, Anna said he could keep it haha. He is such a balloon stealer.

// Our Sunday, the 19th, consisted of church which was Stake Conference (fun- fun to sit by my family except they gave Ryder a pony tail (photo above)), a Relief Society Presidency Meeting, getting home taught, blogging, & lots of football games for Kevin. The DENVER BRONCOS are going to the Super Bowl!!!

SO yeah, I’m basically caught up. So stoked.

Happy Hump Day!

Cherry Creek, Tennis, & Baby Gymnastics

January 6-12, 2014: Here is the low down.

// I went to my friend Mindy’s yoga class. She trained at Core Power Yoga (favorite teaching style so far) but also teaches at Miramont, where I work out. I went to her class, the kind with yoga & weights (not sure if you’ve tried those!). It was a great way to start my Monday! If anyone wants to do a free 5 day trial, let me know! We can workout together for almost a week. :)

// I took Ryder to story time & we met up with our friends Gwen (& Valencia) & Anna (& Emery). The kids had a blast! Ryder also loved trying to eat everyone’s snacks but his own. He even got Emery to feed him snacks haha (photo above).

// Ryder learned 2 big things this week…he learned how to climb on top of the kitchen table! He knocked over a glass of orange all over the table & hardwood floors…agh. He also learned how to open the pantry door. He learned which level the cereal is on, realized we had a box of Lucky Charm’s, & helps himself to them whenever he wants (photos above)! He puts his hand in the box (that he ripped to get to easier), pulls out a handful, opens his hand & all the cereal falls on the floor. Then he picks the marshmallows out & eats them & Katinka eats whatever is left! He also grabs handfuls of Katinka’s dog food & drops it all over the floor! Oh the life with a toddler ;)

// The Jeep got worked on by the Jeep dealership here. They figured out & fixed the problem & we said goodbye an insane amount of money. Unfortunately, it was totally necessary so that was a fun way to spend a lot of money! I hate big expensive problems that just pop up!

// I ran errands/shopped at: Ulta (got some Bare Minerals lipstick with my Ulta gift card which I LOVE! Thanks Greg & Kathy!), Babies ‘r’ Us, Wal-Mart (groceries), & probably more.

// Kevin left on Monday, January 6th, to LA for the Agenda (fashion) Tradeshow. He came back on Wednesday, January, the 8th.

// My mom, dad, Ryder, & I went to Noodles for a dinner on Monday. I think my brothers were at a yo-yo club or something. Then after I put Ryder to sleep, my mom came over & we watched the Countdown to Juan Pablo Bachelor show or whatever it was called! It just made us really want to watch the first The Bachelor episode but I was waiting for Kevin to come back from LA to watch it together.

// My mom, Zach, & I played tennis at Miramont on Tuesday, the 7th. I grew up playing tennis & played for my high school. I played Varsity 2 years & went to state both those years. I wasn’t amazing or anything but I was okay! The summer before I got pregnant (2011), Kevin & I played a lot. We even entered a doubles tournament together ha! Then I got pregnant & my arthritis flared up (I didn’t know it was that at the time) & I couldn’t really do anything too active because my back would hurt so bad and I was pregnant so it makes it worse. It was so annoying. Then I had Ryder, had a c-section really, & then my arthritis (Ankylosing Spondylitis) flared up so bad that I couldn’t walk, sleep through the night, or take care of Ryder (he was SO easy then). I couldn’t even walk without a ton of pain so tennis was the last thing I would attempt to try. I was no where near being able to be that active. Now, I am on Remicade & feeling great but I still have a mysterious back problem. My back hurts when I arch over (like cat in yoga) so I was worried how I would do playing tennis. I had kind of been avoiding it because I knew when I played, I wouldn’t be normal & it would piss me off. I also had kind of given up trying to figure out what my mysterious back problem was. My rheumatologist doesn’t know exactly what it is & the spine specialist I saw in the fall didn’t even look at it & said he couldn’t operate on me…he was the worst! So, long story short, I played & it wasn’t too bad. It definitely aggravated my back though & I paid for it the next day but I tried playing tennis & it was fun. It brought back so many memories & it really makes me want to figure out my back problem, fix it, & get to playing tennis again. Overall, it was good but left me motivated to figure out what is really wrong with my spine, and that not being my spinal arthritis. I sound like an old person with all of my health problems. It sucks!

// Pretty Little Liars started back up! I had forgotten completely when it was starting back up so it was a great surprise to see on the DVR! Ahhh, who watches it?! It is crazy & still so good haha.

// I got my hair cut by Amy Beth at Europa. My bangs were CA-RAZY long. I need to get them trimmed more frequently, like every 4 weeks. It was like 7 weeks I think because I went on the Kansas City trip (HERE) & couldn’t get in to see her for a couple weeks when I returned. My mom watched Ryder while he slept so I could get my hair trimmed.

// My dad brought over some Johnny Carino’s (amazing Italian food) over on Wednesday, the 8th, so I didn’t have to cook. It was SO good! Then Kevin got home really late that night.

// I took Ryder to GK Gymnastics with Gwen (& little Valencia) for his first toddler gymnastics class. It was hilarious! They offer your first class for free so we tried that. I think it would be better if he were a little older. They stretched & played with balloons. Then they rolled down a wedge thing, walked on a balance beam, climbed over a v-shaped latter, & jumped onto a big tall mat thing. They took turns riding a car down a ramp. They got to play on little kid uneven bars, rings, & other little equipment. Then they walked on different levels of the balance beam, jumped on the trampoline, played in the foam pit, & played with big balls on the tumbling floor. It was so funny. Ryder loved to run around at the end with the balls on the big floor. He would! Such a boy! He was also so distracted that he couldn’t look at the balance beam & focus on getting 1 foot in front of another. He just wanted to watch everyone else lol. It was a good time!

// I went to a Relief Society Mid-Week Activity. They had mini classes. I went to a class on sewing & a little bit of a photography class before I had to quickly run home, change, & meet my mom & Patrick at Miramont for an 8:30 pm tennis court time! My back was still hurting but I wanted to play anyway! It was so much fun. I really miss it a lot. We finished playing at 10 pm & were some of the last people to leave the gym!

// On Saturday, the 11th, we cleaned our house very thoroughly = so fun. Then Kevin figured out our TV/internet stuff again. We are still staying with Comcast. It is still the best deal for us. They are just annoying with their bill payment, customer service, & when you get out of your 2 year contract you pay like almost $300 a month so you got to jump on that & get another deal. At least it is over with!

// We went to Cherry Creek Shopping Center in Cherry Creek/Denver on Saturday the 11th. I had bought 2 types of curtains around Thanksgiving. I ordered some from West Elm & some from Crate & Barrel. We kept the ones from Crate & Barrel. We returned the curtains at West Elm & then shopped around in the Cherry Creek mall. We did our last exchange at Express, hallelujah! Then we had a quick & fun dinner at Panda Express. Ryder LOVED the rice which was funny since usually he doesn’t care for it (photo above). I browsed Madewell & Nordstrom. I love spending time in Denver! So fun.

// On Sunday, the 12th, Kevin said the prayer in sacrament. I conducted in Relief Society which I did very horribly. I did everything out of order & wrong haha. Both counselors were gone so I got to do it (I’m the secretary) & I winged it.

That is basically it!!!

Have a great Tuesday!
