Flu Shots, Cool Beans, General Conference Weekend + More

I am so proud of myself since I am basically through September, just as we are about to start November ;)! Over the years my blog has evolved & since I am struggling to keep up, unfortunately, I will have these random weekly update posts…for now. So if this is your thing then good, if not, sorry & oh well. I would love to blog about other things but this is what I am going to do for now. This posts wraps up September (30th) & goes until October 6th, the end of our General Conference weekend! Here goes:

>>> I made a yummy cheddar broccoli soup with chicken, a baguette, an amazing fruit salad, & chocolates for dessert for a lady & her family who I visit teach (since she hurt her back.) I am the worst cook & I made this the night before for Kevin & I & it turned out really good, so I made her the same thing for dinner!

>>> Oh hello there hounds tooth door mat. I am sure I am not the first to think of this idea but I had the brilliant idea to get a Fall/Winter door mat & switch it out with the door mat we previously had out (more of a Spring/Summer one). The Spring/Summer one is the doormat in our garage to our kitchen now. The one previously there had basically run its course so I bought the hounds tooth one & moved the Spring/Summer one to the garage. Then I swap each rug out during their season until they wear out ;) Kevin was like “COOL” haha but I love them both & they are perfect for the seasons! AND you better believe they are both from Target.

>>> One of my favorite TV shows, Revenge started back up & I was pretty pumped about it & had to document it.

>>> Ryder got his 1st set of flu shots (they break them into 2 doses when they are little like him). He knew immediately the correct thing was to cry when he got there, so cried he did! We actually go in for his 2nd & last dose of flu shot next week. Poor guy! He usually feels crummy for a couple of days after.

>>> Right after Ryder got his flu shot, I took him to Fossil Creek Park & Hunter met us there. Hunter wanted to help cheer Ryder up. We pushed him on the swings & Ryder went down slides with Hunter as well. Then Hunter came over to my house & I made dinner. He made the crescent rolls ;) Of course since they are all different sizes & heights & everything they cooked funky but overall they were good, just really gooey in some parts lol.

>>> Kevin had dinner with an account in town & then after we watched a favorite advertising TV show The Pitch. I guess it is our BYU Marriott School of Management backgrounds coming out.

>>> Ryder & I met Bekah & Carmen at the nearby Water’s Way Park one afternoon. There isn’t much cool stuff for young toddlers to do but we had a good time anyways. Ryder wasn’t in the best mood & even pushed baby Carmen which was the first time I had seen that!!! Don’t worry- I googled “what to do when toddler pushes” right after haha. In case you are wondering, I haven’t ever seen him do that again, so I think he just wasn’t feeling well from his shots thank goodness. We also met them at Cool Beans the next day which is an indoor kids play place (& for toddlers). Carmen & Ryder had fun playing with toys, little kitchens, fake food, balls, & cars to ride in. Ryder was OBSESSED with a cop car that he could sit in. I know he would LOVE one of those!

>>> Then Ryder & I both got colds which wasn’t the funnestsi. Then General Conference came along & we were trying to get better. Kevin watched Ryder while I slept in & overall, it wasn’t the funnest weekend which was a bummer since I was looking forward to it. The General Conference part was good though. Also, our friend, Dane Nielsen’s dad spoke in General Conference which was AWESOME. His name is Gifford Nielsen & he is one of the 70. Check it out on LDS.org!

>>> BUT one awesome thing was in between General Conference sessions & any spare moment we had, we organized the basement! I need to take a photo & post it here because I am very pumped about it. Nothing makes me happier than a clean & organized home!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!! We had gotten rid of a gazillion empty cardboard boxes & dropped a bunch of stuff off at Goodwill too.

>>> Kevin & I watched Now You See Me which was a pretty fun movie to watch one evening. I would Redbox it if you haven’t seen it.

Other than the sickness, it was a good week :D

While Your Husband is in Korea…

You keep busy & have some fun! Kevin was in Korea – on business - from September 22-28, 2013 but this post includes the 23rd to the 29th.

Some of that fun was…

+ Going to a girls night at Panera & then hanging out at my casa afterwards. Tiffany Whitsitt, Lauren Moore & her baby boy Harrison, Jocelyne Heinzen, & Bekah Wilkey & her baby girl Carmen met up for dinner. Then Lauren, Jocelyne, & Bekah came over for to watch the movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower (I feel like that is the title.) Then we stayed up for awhile & talked & then got really tired & called it a night! So much fun.

+ I took Ryder to story time after yoga. He got a sticker with his name on it, liked it, & then kept folding it & throwing it on the ground ha. He also didn’t last the whole time in story time because he was hungry & tired. I should have just took him home so he could sleep but I wanted to check it out. I also went to a story time that was for a little older crowd so next time I need to go to a younger one. It would have been better. Also, there were little kids coughing all over so I wanted to leave too haha.

+ Ryder & I went to Target a few times, soooo. Oh, & Ryder is becoming too cool to sit nicely in the shopping carts…ehhh.

+ My mom, Hunter, Ryder, & I ate at Bann Thai, a yummy Thai restaurant! I got “Drunken Noodles.”

+ Kevin & I FaceTimed a few times. So fun! Ryder liked that too! His time difference was really crazy. It was basically completely opposite from our time zone.

+ I took Ryder to Spring Canyon Park & we had a good time. We definitely spent a lot of time on the swings.

+ Not exactly a FUN thing (kind of the theme of this post) was going to a follow up knee dr. appointment with the orthopedic knee guy. Since my knees weren’t really getting better (supposed to be good in 6 weeks & it was 8 weeks) he had me get a brace. He also said maybe we can talk about surgery in the future. UM NO. I went to 2 different physical therapists & including my doctor being 3 people & they all said I had to strengthen different muscles. Some were like “Oh your quads are so strong”, “You need to strengthen your glutes,” la dee da…everything was different. Your abs are weak – well duh, I had a c-section & my abs were cut IN HALF. But I am going to ab classes when I can. Not one told me how to strengthen my VMO which apparently is key in patella femoral syndrome (which is what I have – knee pain). SO I am so confused. I decided to stop seeing my last physical therapist who only gave me 1 exercise for my knees (clamshells?) but yeah, I actually go in tomorrow morning to “THE BEST KNEE GUY IN TOWN.” So, I am hoping he solves my problems! Downside to the knee brace that I hardly wear is that it scratches the crap out of the knee-pit (you know like an armpit!) so how can I wear it when it gets super red & irritated. It hurts!!! My knee guy told me to do leg presses, squats, lunges, stretching, etc. basically everything that the physical therapists said not too, so I’ve been doing that. I’ve also been biking several times a week since apparently that is good. I would say 50% of the time they are bad & 50% of the time they are OK. But I don’t feel like I should have to have surgery being I don’t feel like I had the right exercises to heal my knees. Also, I would then have to stop my Remicade infusions for my arthritis & that is THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO! I cannot have surgery & then have my arthritis get really bad again & wait months for the meds to kick in! That is a nightmare to me.

OOOOHHH I failed to mention- Ryder cannot go to any doctor appointments with me ever again! Why? Well, the minute the nurse checks my ears, listens to my heart, checks my pulse, he screams!!! The nurse approached me & you could tell he was getting nervous. He kept watching me & you could watch his face change. He started crying & it got worse. Then the nurse left & the knee orthopedic guy comes in. Ryder loses it. He REALLY LOST IT when the nurse fit me for a knee brace. I had to get him out of his stroller because he was hysterical & hold him in my lap & he screamed even harder haha. It was so comical & sad & really a bummer since it was a waste of an appointment. I couldn’t ask all of my questions. So now, I will for sure ask people to watch him if my mom or husband can’t & are out of town. I just hate asking people to watch him…I’ve only had my mom watch him & my friend Lauren once.

+ My mom, Zach, Hunter, Ryder & I ate a fantastic dinner at Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, minus the fish :)

+ My mom & I went shopping at Old Navy & Bed, Bath, & Beyond while my Jeep was getting a software recall fixed. It was a good time even though it was raining & my car was at the dealership so I pushed Ryder through the rain. Oh goodness. I did get Ryder an awesome coat & sweater on sale though!

+ My friend Emily Vail & Lauren Herasimtschuk came over to my house while Ryder was sleeping Friday night. Lauren was in town (from New York) & Emily was up from Denver. We were all friends in Junior High so it was fun to catch up. The last time I saw the trio of us was in February of this year. We stayed up WAY LATE until like 1 or 2 in the morning? All I know is that cuts into my sleep since I have an automatic alarm clock of a baby haha. It was worth it.

+ My mom & I went shopping at Centerra & hit up Express & Loft. I was on the lookout for skinny jeans. I scored some at Loft – denim & gray ones! Got to love new jeans. Poor Ryder gets dragged around shopping all the time. Guess what bud, you will forever haha.

+ Then Kevin came home!!!

Even though Kevin was out of town, make that the country & continent, we managed to have an A-okay time ;)

Kevin’s Birthday Week + Tom’s Warehouse Sale

Kevin turned t w e n t y – e I g h t this week so that was the highlight of our week! Here is a little of his birthday & what also happened that week. Annnd go!

>>>  I took Ryder to Kevin’s work as Kevin watched him while I went to physical therapy & got DRY NEEDLING done for the first time! Ouch!! Anyone got dry needling done? I got it done on my back…& I don’t think it did that much help-wise. They stick needles in your back in like “trigger spots” & it hurts really bad. Your muscle in a way “spasms” & then relaxes. Then eventually they take them out. My physical therapist rubbed my back & pinched it & stuff after taking the needles out & it hurt really bad lol. But yeah, again, I don’t think it really helped my problem! Anyways, after that we went out for a classy lunch at Taco Bell! Ryder chose the best hat to wear - a BYU Zephyr Snapback! I was dying over him in that hat.

>>> I went to the Disaster Relief Center in Loveland to help out with the donations for the flood victims. I helped unbox clothes & put them away where they went – adult clothes & children’s. It was very unorganized so I helped get tables, etc. for it. Now I know it is much more organized. I just went on one of the 1st days! It was chaotic. I even saw some people “shopping” around for stuff! I felt bad for them. A lady asked me if they had PJ tops & bottoms (like shorts) & I honestly don’t think they did. Bummer. It was just so unorganized at that point. The pictures above of outside damage is some flood damage I drove by & was able to photograph (through my window) on my way to the Disaster Relief Center.

>>> I brought my friend Becky (the lactation consultant who helped Ryder learn how to nurse) lunch at the hospital since her home in Estes Park got flooded & she currently isn’t able to live at home. Plus the roads up to Estes Park have collapsed in multiple locations from the flood & they said it will take 18 months to rebuild! So can’t really drive up to your home & down to work when there is no working road.

>>> KEVIN’S BIRTHDAY! I decorated the main level with blue streamers & had balloons as well for him. He went to work & then after for dinner, ate at Texas Roadhouse with my family. My dad, mom, brothers Zach & Hunter came. I LOVE THEIR ROLLS! Oh my gosh. I had a lot. We had a yummy dinner & then came to our home. We all ate a cake I had baked earlier in the day – it was vanilla with sprinkly frosting. I still cannot get over the fact Kevin prefers vanilla over chocolate cake haha! He then opened presents. Basically from me & Ryder he could spend money on whatever he wanted haha – Tom’s shoes, clothes, random things haha. Super fun gift ;) I cannot believe he is 28 years old!

>>> We had some family photos taken for Ryder’s 1 year birthday by Tiffany Rebecca (HERE). I posted them on my blog earlier HERE. We LOVE them!

>>> Kevin & I drove to Aurora (near Denver) to go to the Tom’s Warehouse Sale. My friend Emily Vail met us there since she wanted to take a look & see if they had anything else (she went the week prior & already bought some haha). Kevin & I had an hour & a half & that was barely enough time! Kevin wanted to get some shoes for his birthday & he got some awesome ones. We got some for Ryder (for now) & to grow into when he gets older. They were only $10 when the kids are normally $32+! I got a few pairs as well. Basically we got sucked in. I have some photos of our loot above. Then Emily, Kevin, Ryder, & I ate at Sonic for a quick dinner before heading home. It was fun to catch up with Emily! Even though she is living in Denver we hardly see each other!

>>> BYU played Utah in Football! Kevin made sure we put out our BYU flag. All of our neighbors know we are BYU fans I guess & are assuming we are Mormon. Yep, that’s right! Also- I love Ryder in his BYU pj’s! The best.

>>>  Kevin got a haircut at an actual haircutting place – Sports Clips. They sent us a free haircut coupon so Kevin was all over that. He loved it since he just watched sports the whole time haha. Usually I cut it (attempt) & it is kind of stressful since I am not that good lol.

>>> A little bit of rain from the flood got in the Jeep & we aren’t sure how. It got soaked where the driver’s feet go. I am wondering if I left a car door open or a window open for a bit. It is weird. SO, Ryder & I went & got the carpets shampooed & cleaned to get the moisture out & the bad odor gone at Casey’s Car Wash. While they were cleaning it we strolled around looking at Old Navy, Bed, Bath & Beyond, & Target. Good times were had.

>>> We started cleaning our basement. Guys, this is huge! We have lived in our home for almost 2 years now & never had organized it. When we moved in, things were put randomly in places & we had no clue where things were. They were also in cardboard boxes which I don’t like because I know multiple people who have had rats or mice get into things & chew things up & ruin stuff (i.e.. friends snowboard/hunting gear & now my sister’s hockey stuff!) so those had to go. I am all about the plastic containers which unfortunately are highly overpriced. We also started to hoard cardboard boxes since I started shopping on Amazon & used to sell things on eBay often & would be like “Oh I should save this so I can put stuff in it to ship elsewhere!” That never happened. Oh, & right when we moved into our house 2 years ago, I got pregnant, & was so tired & that was the last thing on my mind. Finally we devoted time to cleaning it & we got rid of a gazillion empty cardboard boxes. We would devote more time later that month ;) You have no clue how much I love a clean basement haha because it totally is now.

>>> We took Ryder to the park & during the stroller ride to it he HAD to hold his basketball. It is so cute. He loves balls. Then we had Ryder train (for big athletic success in the far future ;)) by holding himself from a bar at the park haha (picture above). He loves the slides since there are no swings at that park which is the worst.

>>> Kevin left on a trip to Korea on Sunday morning, so Ryder & I were on our own for church. I don’t like being on my own at church since Ryder wants to run around & I have to talk to people, get things into binders, pass out binders, pick things up, etc. for my calling at church (Relief Society Secretary). It is hard to do everything! I know I only have one kid but it is still hard. Ryder made a friend while in church – Isaac (photo above). We used to be over him in nursery so we know him. He apparently LOVES babies/toddlers which is the cutest thing. We were sitting by my friend Bekah Wilkey & her baby Carmen & he was loving both of them. He was getting up all in their faces & giving them snacks & hugs & it was the cutest.

That is about it for this week. It was a pretty good week I would say! The most important thing being Kevin’s birthday! Happy Birthday Kevin! I LOVE YOU!
