PF Changs with the Lenski’s, a Mounted Animal Menagerie, & More

This post consists of March 4-10, 2013. Here is a little bit of what went down:

// It snowed, a lot, which was good because we haven’t had as much snow as usual and we need more moisture. Our Stake even had a stake-wide fast for more moisture. // My mom and I met up with my cousin Brittany Lenski and her husband Greg at PF Changs. Every time Brittany is in town we meet at PF. Changs. I think that was the 3rd time we have met up there over the past 2 years! It is always a good time :) And we got to meet her husband finally! He is awesome. Also, she is pregnant with a little lady and the next time I will see her, she will have her little girl! So exciting! // Sometimes I let Ryder play with my iPhone to calm him down or distract him while I am busy…and I got on Twitter and realized he had tweeted! My little social media man haha! PS. What is your Twitter name? I’m @Ashley_Katinka ! // Ryder got to try out his sippy cup. He likes to play with it! // My friend Bekah and I hit up Michael’s and Home Depot to get supplies to make a mounted animal menagerie piece of art for our babies room. All you need is plastic animals (to cut in half), something to cut the animals in a half (little hand saw), spray paint (we got some Rustolium from Home Depot in gold), a frame (I got the Ribba frame from Ikea), and a hot glue gun to glue the animals to the frame (I glued it to a piece of thick paper, not glass). Ryder had fun hanging out with Bekah’s baby Carmen! I LOVED how they turned out! This was probably the most successful craft I have done. // I signed up for a gym membership!!! I went in during the evening after Ryder got his shots…and he wasn’t happy while I signed a contract haha. Poor guy! But joining a gym has been the best thing ever, minus 2 days this week when I literally couldn’t walk/workout :/ …I had gone 5-6 times a week  - before this week - when I only went 4 times… will blog about my disease soon. It is kind of impossible to workout when you can’t even walk… // We realized that we hadn’t gotten the Jeep and Mazda’s oil changed since before Ryder was born so I spent an afternoon at Walmart getting groceries while the Jeep was getting it’s oil changed. It is pretty convenient to get your oil changed there while shopping! I then made a strawberry salad (with almonds, mandarin oranges, and spinach) for a dinner date Kevin and I attended at our friends, Jared and Lori Croft (& their cute kiddos). Ryder went in a Jumperoo for the first time at their house! It was cute! We then played games afterwards. It was a fun evening! // Ryder went to his 6 month appointment and got shots here.  // Kevin and I finally dove in and purchased our kitchen appliances! They will be delivered in a little over a month so hopefully our renovation will be done then :)  // Ryder and I spent an evening at my friend Laura Neibaur’s house. We ate some take out Chili House Chinese food and hung out while I attempted a craft that didn’t go too well haha. // Kevin and I hit up a few places looking for backsplash but I think we found the best price at Home Depot or Lowe’s. That is the last thing we have to purchase. // We went to IKEA which will be its own post… // And we had a lovely dinner at my parents on the Sabbath.

Happy early Easter!

Ryder at 6 Months

Ryder turned 6 months old on March 3, 2013!  I can’t believe Ryder is already half a year old! I know everyone says it, but really, kids grow so fast. Think about it, how have adults really changed over the recent years? Not by much, maybe gained or lost some weight, got a new hairstyle, but really…nothing too crazy. But babies do so much growing! Within the last few months, Ryder has learned to roll over (front to back at 12 weeks old), babble noises like “Bla” while blowing bubbles and “Da…da…da” and “Ra ra ra raaa”, sit up with support, stand forever while holding our hands, move objects from hand to hand, focus and try to grab little objects, has learned to enjoy tummy time, has started eating solid foods which he loves, sleeps on average 11 hours a night, and so much more! Really, Ryder is overall, a very happy baby. I do feel like over the last few weeks he has gotten a little needier. When he was younger, if I left the room, he didn’t notice or seem to care. Now, sometimes he will fuss or cry if I leave the room or don’t give him as much attention. So I do feel like he is getting needier…which also leads into teething. He has had teething symptoms for months but there are no signs of teeth coming through! I know they can drool and chew on anything and everything in sight months before teeth come so who knows when those little guys will make their appearance! But he has been doing that for months now. Also, every once in awhile – like 1x a week? – he will wake in the middle of the night crying wanting to eat. Whenever he does, I am always confused because it is so rare and it just started so maybe it is because of teething? Haha. I’m not too worried about that though. Anyways, Ryder is an awesome guy and we love him to death!!! I should have probably written this post closer to when he was 6 months old because some stuff (above) has changed. Oh well, 7 months is coming up and I will do better then!

We went to his 6 month appointment on Tuesday, March 5th. He is doing great all around!

His stats are: 17 lbs. 12 oz. (50% percentile- although I weighed him the same day on a diff. scale and he was 17 lbs. 4 oz…scale differences? Lol?), 27 inches tall (75% percentile), and 44 cm head circumference (50%).

About the appointment: He still has a teeny bit of cradle cap on his head but the pediatrician isn’t concerned and says it is super mild. We are just leaving it be for now. It seems when we try to mess with it, his scalp gets red and worse. He also still has mild eczema so we are now doing Hydrocortisone cream for the eczema patches which seems to be helping. One funny thing was that he hadn’t rolled from his back to stomach. He first rolled from his stomach to back at 12 weeks old and usually after they do that, they will roll the other way within a month. Whelp, he did last night for the first time! The pediatrician said to help him roll from his back to stomach and said he would probably roll within a month and he did! She said he was doing much harder things than that so he was strong enough, but he just didn’t want to ha. Oh, and I always ask about where the vacuum was – in labor/delivery – because you can tell where it was on his scalp. There is kind of an area that seems to be a little bald but what we can see it seems that some little hairs are growing so hopefully it will grown in nicely. The pediatrician did mention that they will check it every visit and if for some reason it doesn’t grow in, down the road, they can refer us to a dermatologist. I guess there is a surgery you can do where they cut that piece of skin out and pull the surrounding skin over, if that makes sense. It would be a purely cosmetic surgery. Hopefully it’ll just grow in over time :) I think that is probably most of everything I can remember about the visit and what he has been doing. At the end he got shots and it was so sad, as you can see from the pictures above! He kills me with his sad face!

Stake Relief Society Conference + Weekend

Saturday, March 2nd, 2013, my mom and I went to our Loveland Stake Relief Society Conference together. They provided a yummy dinner beforehand, which was basically a sweet pork Café Rio salad – typical favorite Mormon meal ;) We sat with my friend Laura Neibaur. We enjoyed listening to some speakers and tried to keep Ryder from being too loud. Basically, he doesn’t cry or fuss in church but just makes LOUD noises. Sometimes, I’m sure the people around us couldn’t hear anything the speaker was saying. Once Ryder gets to a certain decibel or whatever I feel like is too loud, I get stressed and run him out haha! Everyone always is like, “Well, it is happy baby noises so it isn’t even a big deal!", “He isn’t even crying!”, “We love happy baby noises!” But he is still so loud…so that is something I think about quite often – as in every few minutes – in all three hours of every church session ha. So I took him out a few times – even made a friend in the nursing lounge! - and eventually my mom and I left early because we were tired and we had been there for hours (with the dinner beforehand) and Ryder was going to get hungry again soon. All in all, it was a good night but a little stressful lol.

Ryder turned 6 MONTHS OLD on Sunday, March 3, 2013. We went to church and then had a lovely afternoon walk with Katinka around the neighborhood.

And…on another note: I know I’ve blogged about it before, but does anyone wear random things together that other people may not think match? Because I do and I was trying Ryder’s tie on - in the picture above – because I just bought it and was like, “Whelp, same color scheme.” Kind of random and pattern mixing so I just left it on hahaha.  I’m sure people were like “What the heck is her kid wearing?!” Like I don’t dress random/weird always, but sometimes it is like, just do it, rock it, make it work, haha. Please tell me someone else does this!

BYU Baby: Snapback’s Back

There isn’t anything better than your baby in a BYU baby Snapback via Zephyr. As you can tell, we are starting him young to be a Cougar fan and possibly a future BYU Baseball player like his daddy. WE LOVE our Ryder boy and he just kills me with his cuteness. Go BYU!

A February Wrap Up + Welcome March

I was on a roll blogging like a week and a half ago, and then I moved into my parents house while our home renovations started and it went downhill. I’ll be back into it soon :) This post covers: February 20th – March 1st, 2013.

// I had a lovely visit to the eye doctor and got my eyes dilated. I always forget how bright everything is afterwards, and driving back home with the awesome shades on! Not my favorite thing BUT on a positive note, my prescription didn’t get worse being pregnant with Ryder! That is a plus! My eyes are already SO bad! Honestly, I bet I am considered legally blind. // While I was shopping at my favorite Super Target I stumbled across all these Utah t-shirts and baby onesies…so random! I seriously had a thought, “Wait, am I in Utah?” Like no one is going to buy these here haha! They also had Utah Jazz stuff! What is cool is that they had some BYU duct tape once – and I actually saw it again recently…like last week – so I guess that means there are more Mormons around here that even Target is noticing? I wish they had some BYU t-shirts or onesies because I may have actually bought some! The Utah ones were on clearance since nobody wanted them, hehe. I have even heard they are putting in a Downeast Outfitters in Loveland (10-15 minutes away.)

// Pretty winter day.

// After I used up a bunch of free workout trials, I worked out at my parents and used my mom’s elliptical! As you can see Ryder was having fun in their exersaucer/jumper while I watched Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Kourtney & Kim Take Miami! Let’s be real. It is the best. Who is your favorite Kardashian? Mine is Kourtney haha! // Uncle Hunter and Ryder. They have too much fun together!

// Kevin and I made whole wheat pancakes, breakfast sausage, and some other yummy things for dinner and it was delicious. I LOVE whole wheat pancakes! Also, I had a lot of strawberries haha. Kathy got us the coolest strawberry cutter that basically cuts out the little part you don’t want to eat in a strawberry and it is the best. I actually just showed it to my dad a couple of days ago and now he has to have one. You can get them at Williams & Sonoma!

// Often times when I go to my parents there are geese parties going on…here was one such party!

// Annnnddd…Kevin, Ryder, and I had fun researching kitchen appliances and checking them out. We checked them out at Factory Appliance Outlet, Sear’s, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Best Buy. Best Buy was the winner! I can’t wait for them to be delivered!!!

Other: I had a lovely Café Rio lunch. // Kevin and I went to Kansas City, Missouri for the CAMEX Trade Show and to visit his fam…post here. // I went visit teaching with my companion Katie. Boom. 100%. // Kevin and I were good and held FHE. Of course, it ended with watching a Modern Family episode. // My mom and I went to Spoons for a yummy lunch. They have great soups! I always get the chicken caesar pita sandwich as well. Delicious! // Kevin and I watched Shark Tank and it was cool because we knew some of the guys on it. If you love Shark Tank and watch it, you probably saw the eyewear company that makes the glasses out of wood, Proof. My sister dated one of the guys. I love seeing people we know on that show! Kevin also knew the guys of Kisstixx (chap stick that you and your significant other wear and when you make out it makes a new flavor…i.e.. strawberry + lemonade…) Kevin knows them because he competed against them in business competitions in good ol’ Provo!

I will do a few more posts maybe soon and then post a little on the home renovations…oh, and maybe sometime on my disease when I am feeling positive about it haha…now time to watch an episode of Revenge!!!

Kansas City CAMEX Trip

Each year, Kevin attends the CAMEX Trade Show (Campus Market Tradeshow). It isn’t always in the same city though. This year CAMEX was held at the Kansas City Convention Center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Kevin’s family is from there so while Kevin was working all week/end, we decided for Ryder and I to come and hang out with his side of the fam! We were supposed to fly out February 21st but there was a blizzard in KC so the flights were cancelled. We ended up flying out February 22nd late at night. We were in KC from February 22-27, 2013.

Ryder did great flying again! See my tips for flying with a baby here. We flew out Friday, February 22nd, 2013. We had an evening flight and got there decently early so we actually ate at a restaurant at the airport! I hadn’t ever done that before haha. Ryder was sleeping in the ErgoBaby Carrier but I transitioned him to a padded bench. Don’t worry- I watched him like a hawk so he wouldn’t roll over off the bench! This was his 9th airplane ride at 5 months old! I love this picture of Kevin and Ryder!

We got in very late and just went straight to bed!

Saturday, February 23rd, we went to my nephew Zach Painter’s baptism! It was great that we got to be there for that great occasion! We are so proud of him for choosing to be baptized! Unfortunately I didn’t get barely any photos from this trip because my iPhone ran out of space and I was in the process of taking photos off of it and organizing them on my computer. Long story short, I literally didn’t have any space on my iPhone and I am still working on organizing photos and taking them off! I just need a day or two solid to complete it haha, no distractions. Afterwards, we went to their home for a big celebratory lunch. They had yummy soups, salads, and breads! Kevin then went off to CAMEX to set up their booth while I hung with the family.  Kathy, Ryder, and I hit up Zona Rosa and went shopping at The Children’s Place and got ice-cream at Coldstone Creamery! Solid day!

Sunday, February 24th, we went to church. Below is Ryder just loving the church services laying on a blanket on the floor ;) Also, Kathy had fun feeding Ryder rice cereal!

My in-laws were so sweet and got me my own personal 5 inch red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for a belated birthday present! Soooo sweet! This cake was amazing too! I slowly ate it over my trip to KC. :) I highly recommend 3 Women and An Oven if you are looking to get a cake or cupcake in the KC area. So delicious!

Then a bunch of family came over to celebrate Kathy’s birthday! Below is Lily and Ryder. Lily was so cute with Ryder! Such a great cousin to him! And a snowy photo below! It was snowing nonstop while we were there!

Monday, February 25th, Kathy, Ryder, and I woke up early and made our way to the Kansas City Convention Center to say hi to Kevin and my dad and everyone working the CAMEX show! As soon as we get there, Kevin brings us badges so we can get past security and while trying to get on the escalator (up the next level to the show) a security guard is like “Ma'am, you can’t bring a baby up there.” I thought it was a joke. Like seriously? But she kept saying it and I was like “Wait are you serious?!” And YES she was serious! Ryder had been to the Outdoor Retailer Show in SLC a month prior so this wasn’t his first tradeshow! I also saw a few other babies at that show. Whelp, apparently for the CAMEX show, kids/babies are a no go! So we start walking down a hall to see if we can go up a different escalator and different entrance…and it was so awkward. Like everyone knew we were walking there. A lady was right there waiting for us and told us, no, you can’t bring your baby up! Ryder was just asleep in the ErgoBaby! Like what would he even do?! I understand if he was walking and maybe there were some dangerous booths but compared to other tradeshows this one isn’t as extravagant. So Kathy watched Ryder, while I went up and said hey to everyone at the Zephyr booth and then came down so Kathy could go up (& I watch Ryder). I was talking to this employee and he was like “Yeah, it is lame how you can’t bring a baby up!” I’m like “Yeah, he has already been to a tradeshow before…I thought it was a joke when they said he couldn’t go up there…It would be nice if we would have known they can’t go up beforehand…etc.” He totally agreed with me and said he thinks it is something that is put into place by the building owner or something, but that kids were allowed up to go to car shows. Long story short, he said that all the employees knew to look out for me because I had a baby and was trying to get in the show, haha! They radioed about it to everyone! Then I started feeding Ryder and I guess that employee I talked to must have done something because over another employee’s radio I heard someone say “Babies and children are allowed in.” The lady then told me I could go up because they wanted everyone to have a chance to check out the show (because a snow storm was coming or…the rule is lame!)…That was the weirdest thing ever! I still am shocked they wouldn’t allow him because he was asleep on me, not some mobile out of control toddler.

Me and some of the booth…Basically this show is for buyers of school bookstores, college licensing directors, etc., so everything/product has collegiate logos on them.

After Kathy and I hung out at the booth, we walked around checking out other booths and getting free samples and such (free Burt’s Bees, yes!) Then we ate some Quizno’s which I LOVE! I can’t remember the last time I ate there. We then went to the Plaza in downtown KC and hit up H&M, Barnes & Noble, and Lululemon. Gosh, I really need to start getting some workout clothes from Lululemon! I just need to save up or get some stuff on sale. But basically, I freaked out when I walked in there. Love their stuff. Then Kathy and I got some yummy chocolates at an amazing chocolate shop and we went to a very cool kitchen type store boutique. Man, remind me whenever I need to get a new whisk or kitchen towels to not go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond but to hit up a boutique! They have such cooler stuff! Love it. Then we went back home and then back out to meet up with Kevin, my dad, and my uncle Mike for dinner at The Marriott’s fancy schmancy restaurant. My dad had the most amazing steak and I remember I got yummy pork. Ryder also tried his first veggies solids (carrots) at the restaurant! He didn’t care that much about them ha. Oh, and he had a BYU bib and we ran into the BYU Bookstore buyer at the hotel so I had to show it to him, hehe.

Tuesday, February 26th, we woke up to a ton of snow! We made our way to Lenexa, Kansas because Greg had to do some work and he works in Lenexa. Kathy and I were going to go to Oak Park Mall but it was closed because of the snow! We then spent our afternoon at a Super Target. Seriously, I love Target so it was no big deal ha. Kathy got us a cute ‘Spring’ pennant banner! Love it!

It was a chambray kind of day for Ryder and I. I love matching him! I try to coordinate our outfits for church sometimes. Fun stuff :)

Then Anna came over for a bit to hang out (she had just gotten back from a tropical vacation so this was the first we saw her this trip) and Ryder had a blow out which got on her nose haha. She was like wondering what the smell was and smelled his bum, not realizing she was putting her nose into some poop! Kathy and Anna helped bathe him in the sink while I got him clothes, etc.. Got to love a clean baby in camouflage (bottom right).

After Kevin finished packing up the Zephyr booth at CAMEX he came over and spent the night with us. We caught an early flight Wednesday, February 27th. Ryder did great! 10th flight down in under 6 months!

Bose airplane fun :) And…Ryder and I were SO tired we – I guess I, as he was already sleeping - could have fallen asleep like this while waiting for our baggage to arrive!

And we picked up Miss Katinkles from the kennel and Ryder was happy!IMG_9275

Got to love a good KC trip!
